about

This song is in the thematic vein of Randy Newman's "God's Song" and John Fullbright's "Gawd Above" in that In this song I take on the voice of an indifferent or, rather, fed-up god tired of the hypocrisy of man.

This song is heavily influenced by the writing and arranging of M. Ward. This song, along with "All for a Song" are also heavily influenced by my friendship with Jacob Tovar of Tulsa, OK. Jacob re-awakened my love of country music. Without that awakened appreciation of country music, many of the songs on this record would not have been written.

lyrics

I used to care, I used to try
I used to have a plan
But it seems my plans have gone awry

I used to have ambition
I was a motivated man
But now I'm lucky if I'm getting by

So I called out to god in heaven, "Save me if you please!
'Cause it seems that all my schemes have come undone."
And he said, "Son I've tried to tell you, but you don't understand,
The last time was the last I'll reach down my mighty hand."

I used to wake up early
And used to stay out late
I used to sell my moments by the hour

I used to laugh at notions
Of the potency of fate
But fate has turned all my sweet moments sour

So I called out to god in heaven, "Save me if you please!
'Cause it seems that all my schemes have come undone."
And he said, "Son I've tried to tell you, but you don't understand,
The last time was the last I'll reach down my mighty hand.
You keep sayin' that you love me, but you don't know who I am."

So I called out to god in heaven, "Save me if you please!
'Cause it seems that all my schemes have come undone."
And he said, "Son I've tried to tell you, but you don't understand,
The last time was the last I'll reach down my mighty hand.
You keep sayin' that you love me, but you don't know who I am,
I burn down your cities, and turn your castles into sand.
Oh last time was the last time,
'Cause this time...
Oh this time...
I don't give a damn."
